Our weekend calendar in and around Davidson promises a big weekend for food and music. Summit Coffee hosts live music Thursday to Saturday nights, and Sunday brings the next Concert on the Green, with beach music favorites Band of Oz. The Cornelius Arts Center/Community Arts Project host an opening reception Friday for an exhibit of artwork by students. On the big screen, Mooresville’s Movies on Main presents the auto racing animated film “Cars” Friday night outdoors. Our Town Cinemas offers a sneak preview tonight of the movie “Racing Dreams,” while also opening “Shrek Forever After.” And the Davidson Farmers Market runs Saturday morning downtown.

Also, join us Friday night at Summit Coffee on Main Street for a performance by Davidson Local. The local band, led by songwriter John Wertheimer, will donate the proceeds of Friday’s event to DavidsonNews.net.

OUR TOWN CINEMAS

“Shrek Forever After” opens this weekend at Our Town Cinemas in Sadler Square along with an exclusive engagement of an award-winning documentary called “Racing Dreams.”

“Racing Dreams” opens in a sneak preview at 7:30 p.m. The film follows three young racers as they compete in the World Karting Association National Pavement Series. One of the featured drivers is Annabeth Barnes of Statesville, who is now racing Legend and stock cars.

Our Town Cinemas officials some of the film’s stars are expected to be at the screening with their families and friends.
