A special midnight showing of “Iron Man 2″ Thursday night, live jazz at Summit Coffee Saturday, and a piano-cello duo concert
[2]Sunday at St. Alban’s Church are among the weekend highlights in and around Davidson. The Davidson Farmers Market is back on its weekly spring/summer schedule, and runs Saturday morning next to Town Hall. There’s theater (“Road to Mecca” at Warehouse PAC) and an art exhibit opening (John Borden Evans, at Christa Faut Gallery). There’s a 3-on-3 basketball tournament Saturday, hosted by Knights of Pythagoras. And Saturday at 5, Davidson College Presbyterian Church hosts a unique Taize worship service, which incorporates silence and meditative music.

Starring Divina Cook as Helen, Tonya Bludsworth as Elsa and Tom Scott as Marius. Set design by Lee Ann Harrison. Fridays and Saturdays May 14-May 15 at 7:30 p.m. (house and bar open at 7), Matinees Sundays May 16 at 2:30 p.m., doors open 2 p.m. Tickets $15, available by email tickets@warehousepac.com [4]. SATURDAY, MAY 8, 9 a.m., Ranson Middle School, 5850 Statesville Road, Charlotte – 3 on 3 basketball tournament sponsored by Harry L. Johnson Council No. 201, Knights of Pythagoras. Junior high, high school and adult teams invited. $25 entry fee per team. Awards for 1st and 2nd in each category. Doors open at 9 a.m., games begin at 10. SATURDAY, MAY 8, 5 p.m., Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Lingle Chapel – Taize´ worship service with prayers for healing, and Eucharist. Taize´ is an ecumenical monastic community in France which welcomes people from all over the world for retreats involving Bible study and worship. Their music is simple and meditative, with each song sung a number of times, allowing the sung prayer to, in a sense, descend from the head to the heart, becoming a living prayer. Taize´ services include a period of extended silence to reflect on the scripture.
[6]"Two Birds" by John Borden Evans is among an exhibit of his paintings opening this week at Christa Faut Gallery.

SUNDAY, MAY 9, 4 p.m., St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane – “Spirituality in the Arts” presents The Bechtler Ensemble, featuring cellist Tanja Bechtler and pianist Paul Nitsch in a program of works by Barber, Schumann, Schubert, and Debussy. Ms. Bechtler played with the Charlotte Symphony 1997-2009. She also has performed with storytellers, poets, dancers and rock bands. Mr. Nitsch is McMahon Professor of Music and artist in residence at Queens University in Charlotte. He also is artistic director of Queens’ Friends of Music and executive director of the Swannanoa Chamber Music Festival. Free. Suggested donation $10. Info: 704-892-0173.
