‘Road to Mecca’ continues; ‘Oklahoma!’ window contest

Warehouse Performing Arts Center’s production of Athol Fugard’s “Road to Mecca,” directed by Davidson resident
[1]Louise Robertson, continues this weekend with shows Friday through Sunday. Meanwhile, Davidson Community Players is hoping to drum up interest in its June production of “Oklahoma!” with a Main Street window display contest. Read on for the details.
ROAD TO MECCA
Theater: “Road to Mecca” runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through May 16 at Warehouse Performing Arts Center.
Warehouse Productions presents “The Road to Mecca” by Athol Fugard, directed by Louise Robertson of Davidson. It stars Divina Cook as Helen, Tonya Bludsworth as Elsa and Tom Scott as Marius. Set design is by Lee Ann Harrison.

Ms. Robertson is a theater veteran who has been working with Warehouse PAC since last fall after moving to the area. A native of the UK, she was Stanislavski and Method-trained at the Drama Centre in London,Read more her in our Nov. 2009 report [4] on her first local show.
‘OKLAHOMA’ WINDOW DISPLAY CONTEST
Davidson Community Players is holding a contest for creative ideas for a window display that will appear on Main Street in Davidson featuring the upcoming musical “Oklahoma!” The prize: Recognition on the display and in the show program, plus two free tickets to “Oklahoma!”
The Players’ production of “Oklahoma!” is June 17-20 and June 21-27 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall. The popular musical is set in the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the 20th century, against a background of the rivalry between cattlemen and farmers.
All submission must be received by May 24. The window display featuring the play “Oklahoma!” will be visible from June 6-20. The contest is open to any residents and companies in the Lake Norman area.
Executive Director Diane Benson said in a press release she is “excited by the prospect of showing how visual and theatre arts reinforce each other.”

The window display should be no larger than 6 feet high by 5 feet wide. Please include all contact information with the submission.
