Fund-raisers, meetings, and weekend arts on the Green

this week button [1]Our community calendar in and around Davidson this week includes fund-raising golf tournaments, another informal chat with members of the Davidson Town Board, and a variety of other meetings and music. Meanwhile, looking ahead to the weekend, it’s Art on the Green, the annual festival of art, crafts, food and music on the Village Green Saturday and Sunday. And the Davidson College symphony and jazz ensemble play Sunday night in the first Concert on the Green of the season. Read on for the details. On stage, “Charlotte’s Web” continues at Armour Street Theatre Saturday and Sunday.

MONDAY, APRIL 19, 12:30 p.m., River Run Country Cub, Davidson – 8th Annual Tee It Up for Davidson Day School Golf Tournament. MONDAY, APRIL 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St – Davidson town commissioners’ neighborhood chat, suggested for residents of McConnell, Cabin Creek, Hudson Place neighborhoods. This is the latest in a series of informal chats the Town Board is holding this month to listen to citizens’ concerns and update them on the status of the town budget and the MI-Connection cable system.

MONDAY, APRIL 19, 7:30 p.m., Davidson College Alvarez College Union 900 Room – Vann Center for Ethics discussion: “The 2008 Financial Crisis and the Regulatory Reaction: What Went Wrong, and Why Is So Little Being Done in Response?” With John C. TUESDAY, APRIL 20 – Annual “Autism Aware Fare” fund-raiser for the Autism Society of NC – Meck County Chapter (ASNC-MCC). Restaurants all over will donate a portion of their sales today to the chapter and display info about autism awareness. Dine out for a good cause. THURSDAY, APRIL 22 – Third annual Davidson Tigers v. J.V. Washam Hawks
charity staff basketball game. The event benefits the Ada Jenkins Center,
and pits teachers from the rival elementary schools playing for bragging
rights. The Hawks will be the defending champs, having pulled out a
squeaker win in 2009. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m. at the Davidson College Belk
Arena. The event is free. Donations to Ada Jenkins will be collected at
the door.

THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 7-9 p.m., behind Summit Coffee, 128 S. Main Street – “Toast the Earth” fund-raiser for Davidson Lands Conservancy and preview of the Davidson Farmers Market summer season.
