Thelma and Andris Rozukalns
The program begins with familiar and favorite composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Vierne. Music by German, French, Canadian, Italian, American, and Latvian composers make this a musical travelogue.
A solo and collaborative organ and piano performer in major US, Canadian, French and Latvian cities, Andris Rozukalns did undergraduate studies at Drake University and holds degrees in Organ Performance from the University of Kansas, and Artist Diploma from Cleveland Institute of Music and has done doctoral studies at Arizona State University.
A member of the viola trio La Dolce Musica, the featured artist additionally studied the German and French Romantic repertoire with Louis Robilliard in Lyon, France. He likes to feature that period and Latvian compositions in his programs.
Thelma Rozukalns earned the Doctor of Arts degree in vocal pedagogy at the University of Mississippi. The talented couple live in Hickory where Andris Rozukalns is Director of Music and Organist at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and Thelma Rozukalns is Adjunct Professor of Voice at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, and the Director of Choirs at West Lincoln Middle School in Vale, North Carolina.
Music, and especially organ and voice lovers, are invited to the free performance after which a Meet the Artists reception is sponsored by Friends of the Organ. Donations are encouraged to expand the 2010-2011 fifth year series of Organ at Davidson.
