Basketball, farmers market, and fund-raisers

Davidson Weekend CalendarYucky weather could crimp plans for a second straight weekend, but we know some events will go on as scheduled. Saturday’s Souper Bowl cook-off, a fund-raiser for Davidson Housing Coalition’s emergency home-repair program, takes place Saturday at Davidson College. There’s music at Summit Coffee. The winter tailgate farmers market is back next to Town Hall Saturday. And Davidson College men’s men’s basketball game against Georgia Southern Saturday night includes the 2nd annual Kicks from Cats fund-raiser. Buy the red T-shirt, or wear red.

The town’s Natural Assets & Tree Advisory Board meets Thursday night at 7 p.m. to talk about a proposed Arbor Day celebration and existing town policies governing opne space, trees and other natural assets. And the River Run neighborhood hosts a Goodwill donation drive Saturday, collecting used items in the parking lot next to the athletic fields at Robert Walker Drive, off Davidson-Concord Road.

The Davidson Wildcats’ 2nd annual Kicks from Cats fund-raiser Saturday begins at 7 p.m. at Belk Arena of the Baker Sports Complex. The event helps bring sports and education to Nigeria – the home country of player Frank Ben-Eze and former Wildcat Andrew Lovedale. The team has joined forces again this year with the nonprofit Samaritan’s Feet. The theme of Saturday’s game is Paint it Red, and the team is selling red T-shirts in advance.
