Drink and a movie anyone? Our Town Cinemas in Davidson begins serving wine and beer at its concession stand today, Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Meanwhile, the theater will introduce a couple of new films beginning on Friday: “Avatar” (in regular format) and “Blind Side.” And coming next week: A free public screening of the season’s first episode of TV show “Lost.”
Our Town Cinemas opened in December at 227 Griffith St., in Sadler Square shopping center. Since then, it has been rotating in one or two films per week, many that have come at the requests of local moviegoers. And it is continuing to add to the menu at its concession stand.
Spokeswoman Jan Black said the theater now has a variety of beers on tap, including Fat Tire, Michelob Ultra, Yuengling, and Landshark Lager as well as Wood Chuck Cider. Wines are Mondavi Woodbridge Chardonnay and Merlot, Clos du Bois Chardonnay and Ravenswood Merlot.
Ms. Black warned that the theater “will be strict on carding” would-be drinkers. If you’re close to the 21-year-old age limit, you may be asked to show a North Carolina driver’s license, passports or NC Identification Card.
The theater also sells Brickhouse Tavern pizzas, White Castle burgers, Nathan’s hot dogs and other food, as well as fountain drinks, coffees and teas.
NEW FILMS, FREE TV
Beginning Friday, “The Blind Side” and “Avatar” will join the lineup. “Book of Eli” has its final shows Thursday.
“The Blind Side” is the story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy who became an All-American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.
“Avatar” is the Golden Globe-winning film by James Cameron that is already one of the all-time biggest movie successes at the box office. Using motion capture technology to create a visually stunning world, the film tells the story of a paraplegic Marine on a mission to the moon Pandora. He becomes torn between following orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
Next week, the theater will show the first episode of the final season of the pop TV show “Lost” on its big screens. Admission is free, but seating will be limited.
