Davidson Local, which plays music inspired by local life and places, will perform Friday, Dec. 18, from 8 to 11 p.m. at Summit Coffee in a benefit for the family of Jorge Fiscal Cruz, the local restaurant worker killed in a bike-car accident last month.
(Read the moving account of Mr. Cruz’s life and death by Gloria Lawing, published Dec. 4 on DavidsonNews.net.)
Davidson Local is led by songwriter/guitarist John Wertheimer, a Davidson College history professor who writes original songs about everything from history and politics to parents and true love to roundabouts and homeowners’ associations. (As one song says: “I’d love to find a cure for cancer, but I’ve got to mow the lawn!”) Regular members of the group include John & Cameron Swallow, and Sherman Campbell.
Friday’s performance will include guest appearances by recent Davidson College grads Daphne Fruchtman and Sena Addo, saxophonist Oscar Huerta, and Davidson College political science professor Shelley Rigger.
They’ll be passing the hat for Mr. Cruz’s family during the evening.
Summit Coffee is at 128 S. Main St.
