Visiting writers, planning-related meetings at town hall, Halloween-related theater and music, and a chance to meet the principal of the new Bailey Road high school are on the calendar in Davidson this week. Bailey Road high principal Terri Cockerham will be at Town Hall this afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m. to meet residents and talk about the school that will open next fall. The Planning Board and Town Board both will discuss the Comprehensive Plan at meetings this week.

The Music at St. Alban’s series presents a Brass Fest on Sunday. At the college, sisters and writers Catherine Gilbert Murdock and Elizabeth Gilbert give the annual Reynolds Lecture tonight (Monday). Then Tuesday, writer Spanish writer Laura Freixas gives a lecture. On Thursday, Emory U. professor Rosemarie Garland-Thomson presents a lecture based on her latest book, “Staring: How We Look,” in conjunction with the exhibition “STARING,” on view in Davidson’s Belk Visual Arts Center.

Weekend events have a Halloween theme: Kids and parents are invited to wear their costumes in the annual Halloween march on Main Street Friday evening. Also Friday, organist Henry Lebedinsky plays a spooky accompaniment to the silent film “Hunchback of Notre Dame” in two shows at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. And over at Davidson Day School, the first student theater production of the year Friday and Saturday features dramatizations of four scary stories by Edgar Allen Poe.

And for parents, a reminder: Thursday and Friday are teacher work days at local public schools.
