Mark Hibbs
Also this week, Chef Mark Hibbs cooks up some grits
How will you be carving your pumpkins this year? If you’re still looking for ideas, be sure to stop by the Davidson Farmer’s Market this Saturday, Oct. 17, and bring the kids. Artists Deborah Carter, Kristen Feighery and Jason Hendrickson, from local gallery Sanctuary of Davidson, will be carving pumpkins from 9-11:30 a.m.
Children will enjoy decorating pumpkins in an area specially set up for them. Participants may bring their own pumpkins or purchase them from the farmers.
If you’re in the mood for a snack, try one of the autumnal dishes prepared by on-site chefs, including personal chef Vera Samuels, using pumpkin and other local ingredients. And don’t overlook the vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, honey, dairy, fresh flowers, baked goods and other products sold by local farmers as always.
Also this week, music accompaniment will be by the Lake Norman Jam.
CHEF MARK COOKS GRITS
Also Saturday, Chef Mark Hibbs of the award-winning Charlotte restaurant Ratcliffe on the Green, will be cooking grits at the market from 10 a.m.
Flavorful, soothing and packing a healthy punch, grits are appearing on the menus of some of the nation’s trendiest restaurants. Chef Hibbs will cook his recipe from the book “Glorious Grits: America’s Favorite Comfort Food,” by Susan McEwen McIntosh, along with other breakfast fare from market vendors.
The book will be available for purchase at Main Street Books, 126 South Main Street, Davidson.
