weekendcal Look for a variety of events to benefit charities this weekend. Davidson Housing Coalition welcomes hundreds of cyclists Saturday for its Ride for Hope & Housing, with routes up to 100 kilometers on local streets and greenways. Also Saturday, you the downtown  CVS store offers hot dogs and car washes. Then Saturday night, A Giving Spirit Foundation hosts its 2nd Fall Family Fest with kid friendly activities, food and live music.

The Davidson Reads townwide reading series continues today (Thursday), as Davidson Professor Shireen Campbell leads an open discussion of this year’s book, “The Color of Water,” by James McBride. And don’t forget the Amazing Maize Maze, a 7-acre cornfield maze, continues Thursday to Sunday at Rural Hill in Huntersville.

Saturday brings back the Davidson Farmers Market, 8 to noon next to Town Hall. On Sunday, Community School of Davidson will break ground for its new high school, on Armour Street.
