Rusty Knox
Downtown Davidson Inc.’s final Concert on the Green of 2009 on Sunday will feature Rusty Knox & Friends, a group of musicians from Davidson and the surrounding area who play a mix of bluegrass and country. The concert runs 6-8 p.m. on the Village Green, Main Street and Concord Road in front of Davidson Public Library.
LOCAL FLAVOR
Mr. Knox is a Davidson singer/songwriter. Joining him will be Michael Orlando on mandolin and vocals; Brad Reddick on lead guitar and vocals; Dwight Burks on fiddle, guitar and vocals; Gregg Miller on bass and vocals; and Brian Burton on drums.
“It’s gonna be a large/loud show,” Mr. Knox promised Thursday. “Our final tune-up was awesome.”
Rusty Knox is a Davidson native and fixture on Main Street, where he works in the family business, Knox Real Estate. In recent years, he’s devoted more time to his passion – writing and playing music.
He put out an album last winter called “Reason Why,” which included a variety of tunes about life and change in and around Davidson. In a January audio interview with DavidsonNews.net, he said, “The songs all have stories behind them. I wanted to turn out something that people could relate to tin their everyday lives.”
The final song on that album is called “Paradise Lost,” and is a reference to Davidson. “It’s changed, some of it’s for the better and some of it not. But it’s still a great place to live,” Mr. Knox said in that interview.
PACK A PICNIC
This weeks picnic theme is “Most Unique: Stand Up and Stand Out.” Winners get prizes donated by local businesses.
And this Concert on the Green will have an opening act, too. The Sands of Time, a family ensemble, sings doo wop songs from the 1950s and 1960s.
