The annual Lake Norman Family YMCA Triathlon is this weekend, this year expanded to 2 days, with experts competing Saturday and the rest of the field Sunday. Our Weekend Calendar also has a variety of other events in and around Davidson,
from a fund-raising dinner tonight at Toast Cafe for the Autism Society of NC to a Sunday “End of Summer” party at Summit Coffee. There’s a free concert tonight at Mooresville Town Hall with Tsunami Wave Riders. And don’t forget Saturday’s free bluegrass concert at Cornelius Presbyterian Church, with local favorites Davidson Express.

TRIATHLON TRAFFIC
Athletes are expected to begin arriving for the Lake Norman Family YMCA fund-raising triathlon both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 6 a.m. Off-site parking is available at Ada Jenkins Center on Gamble Street and the former Davidson Clinic building on South Main Street, south of the dentists’ offices and South Main Square. (See our Aug. 17 preview article for more about the Y’s big fund-raiser.)
The races begin with the first swimmers hitting the water at the Y in Cornelius at 7 a.m. both days. They’ll depart in waves depending on their ages and divisions. The event includes biking and running as well. Residents along the routes should be on the lookout for athletes through the morning. YMCA officials estimate they’ll be biking through the east part of Davidson from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. and running through Victoria Bay in Cornelius from 8 to 11 a.m.
