Town Board meets; theater for kids

Our community calendar in and around Davidson this week includes the monthly Town Board meeting Tuesday,
a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meeting Monday and a kids’ theater performance called “Connie Co. Dives In” produced by Davidson Community Players youth theater arm. We also point you to summer art exhibits at both Summit Coffee and Davidson College Visual Art Center, and a Saturday art benefit for Hope House at Dilworth Coffeehouse in Cornelius.

MONDAY, JULY 13, 7:30 p.m., Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St. – UU Fellowship of Lake Norman meeting on “The Reality of It All: Living the Vision,” including discussion of a long-term vision for a Unitarian community in the Lake Norman area. TUESDAY, JULY 14, 6 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Monthly Town Board meeting. Agenda includes a presentation on a proposed parking deck downtown next to Town Hall, a vote on a street resurfacing contract, and a vote on a proposed ordinance to bar registered sex offenders from town parks. Agenda to be posted on the town website [3].
WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 6:30-9 p.m., Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, 202 S. Main St. – Rock Band Wednesday. Up to four can play the popular video game free, trying their hands at performing on computer “instruments.” Details: 704-892-0604.

SATURDAY, JULY 18, 8 a.m. to noon, downtown Davidson next to Town Hall – Davidson Farmers Market, with local farmers and vendors selling meats, produce, dairy products, baked goods, and other items. Music this week is Lake Norman Jam, a gathering a bluegrass musicians. Community Partner is Davidson Community Players. SATURDAY, JULY 18, 10 a.m., Davidson United Methodist Church Chapel, 304 S. Main St. – Marlene Howard, of Charlotte’s Resurrection Lutheran church and missionary to Finland, will speak at Davidson AGLOW. Meeting begins at 10, coffee and fellowship at 9:30. Free.
SATURDAY, JULY 18, 4 to 8 p.m., Dilworth Coffeehouse, Oakhurst Village (beside 131 Main)- Art Walk to benefit Hope House. Come browse or shop from local artists work and enjoy live music. Several art pieces will be donated to a Silent Auction with proceeds going to the Hope House in Huntersville. Sponsored by Radiant Life Fellowship.

SUNDAY, JULY 19, 4 p.m., Armour Street Theater, 307 Armour St. – Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. presents “The Connie Company Dives In!” It’s a fast-paced kid-friendly production of poems, stories, legends and lore “under the sea,” and is the culmination of this summer’s Rupert T. Barber Summer Workshop Series. Admission is $3 for adults and children. Proceeds benefit Davidson Community Players’ Connie Company youth programming. DAVIDSON DASH SHUTTLE BUS – Mondays, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Town of Davidson has begun service on a weekly shuttle bus called Davidson Dash. The bus will visit downtown, South Main Street, Sadler Square and the Harris Teeter shopping center near Exit 30. Cost: $1 per roundtrip.
