Town Board meets; theater for kids

Our community calendar in and around Davidson this week includes the monthly Town Board meeting Tuesday,weekendcal a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meeting Monday and a kids’ theater performance called “Connie Co. Dives In” produced by Davidson Community Players youth theater arm. We also point you to summer art exhibits at both Summit Coffee and Davidson College Visual Art Center, and a Saturday art benefit for Hope House at Dilworth Coffeehouse in Cornelius.

TUESDAY, JULY 14, 6 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Monthly Town Board meeting. Agenda includes a presentation on a proposed parking deck downtown next to Town Hall, a vote on a street resurfacing contract, and a vote on a proposed ordinance to bar registered sex offenders from town parks. WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 6:30-9 p.m., Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, 202 S. Main St. – Rock Band Wednesday. Up to four can play the popular video game free, trying their hands at performing on computer “instruments.” Details: 704-892-0604.

SATURDAY, JULY 18, 10 a.m., Davidson United Methodist Church Chapel, 304 S. Main St. – Marlene Howard, of Charlotte’s Resurrection Lutheran church and missionary to Finland, will speak at Davidson AGLOW. Meeting begins at 10, coffee and fellowship at 9:30. Free.

SATURDAY, JULY 18, 4 to 8 p.m., Dilworth Coffeehouse, Oakhurst Village (beside 131 Main)- Art Walk to benefit Hope House. Come browse or shop from local artists work and enjoy live music. Several art pieces will be donated to a Silent Auction with proceeds going to the Hope House in Huntersville. Sponsored by Radiant Life Fellowship.

  • SUNDAY, JULY 26, 2-6 p.m., Habitat for Humanity ReStore parking lot, 20414 N. Main St., Cornelius – Our Towns Habitat for Humanity is hosts its 2nd Annual Habitat for Humanity Car Show (rescheduled from a rain-out in May). Entries include sports cars, muscle cars, vintage cars, replicas, hot rods and show cars. They’ll have food, prizes, a DJ and dancing. Spectators will help judging, and prizes will be for best in show and best in class. All proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity’s 4th Youth United Habitat home. Admission free. Car Show entry fees are $20 for early registration and $25 for day of event registration. Raffle tickets $5.     DAVIDSON DASH SHUTTLE BUS – Mondays, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Town of Davidson has begun service on a weekly shuttle bus called Davidson Dash. The bus will visit downtown, South Main Street, Sadler Square and the Harris Teeter shopping center near Exit 30. Cost: $1 per roundtrip.
