Davidson Town Day [1] is Saturday, beginning early with the Day Care Dash [2] fund-raising 5k race and continuing all day with food, entertainment, kid rides, games and vendors. (See below for street closing info.)
The week’s events include a performance of Haydn’s “The Creation” at the college tonight (Monday) and the Town Board holds its monthly work session Tuesday, continuing planning for the 2009-10 budget, considering a new tax on heavy equipment rentals, and discussing establishing a new tax district for the Exit 30 area. In fund-raisers: The Lions’ Russell Knox Memorial Golf Tournament is this afternoon (Monday), while Dr. Mehmet Oz, of Oprah show fame, speaks Friday in Mooresville (tickets still available). … Details in our full calendar …

SUNDAY, MAY 3, 8 p.m., St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane, off Concord Road – Public reading of John Patrick Shanley’s award-winning play “Doubt, a Parable,” which also was a hit movie. This cast also performed the play in the February Festival of Faith and Arts [8] at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Directed by Alan England, with Larry Ligo as Father Flynn. Set in the Bronx in 1964, it is structured as a clash of wills and generations between Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn, the young priest who may or may not be too fond of the schoolboys in his charge. Free. Donations will be accepted for St. Alban’s Habitat for Humanity House now under construction.
