Soloists for the evening will include soprano Ariana Wyatt singing the parts of the archangel Gabriel and Eve, tenor Randall Outland singing the part of the archangel Uriel, and bass Douglas Renfroe singing the parts of the archangel Raphael and Adam.
“The Creation” is set in three acts, and demonstrates Haydn’s reinterpretation of the Handelian oratorio. The first two parts describe the six days of God’s creation of the world, and include vivid musical depictions of its physical presence and wonderfully descriptive music for the creation of various animals. The third act centers around Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Haydn wrote “The Creation” in the 1790s, following concert tours of England where he heard a performance of Handel’s Messiah and decided to compose his own oratorio.
