The North Mecklenburg Senior Center prepares for its first holiday season in its new location, at 16601 Old Statesville Road, with three events, including a Christmas cookies and cocoa social, a Christmas luncheon and a guest lecturer. The events are open to the public. See below for details.

MUSIC, COOKIES AND COCOA DEC. 8 – FREE

On Thursday, Dec. 8, Chesterbrook Academy students will perform holiday music for the seniors, and after the concert, seniors are invited to stay for cocoa and cookies with other senior center participants. The concert begins at 11 a.m. with cookies and cocoa to follow. Registration requested, but walk-ins welcome.

HAROLD DALE DISCUSSES HUMOR AND AGING DEC. 9 – FREE

On Friday, Dec. 9, the center welcomes Country Fried Preacher Harold Dale, who will speak about “Laughing our Way through our Mature Years.” The lecture begins at 10:30 a.m. and snacks and beverages will be provided. Registration requested, but walk-ins welcome.

CATERED CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON DEC. 16 – $8

On Friday, Dec. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., K&W Cafeteria will cater a Christmas luncheon at the center. The meal costs $8, or $4 for annual discount card holders.

Also at the luncheon, seniors will enjoy a holiday sing-along.

Guests are asked to bring a wrapped toy for donation to Toys for Tots, sponsored by the Huntersville Police Department. Each toy must include a tag indicating whether the toy is intended for a boy or a girl, and the approximate age of the child.
