A new Indian restaurant called Curry N Kabab House has opened on West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius, where Santorini Grill closed recently. Meanwhile, Hot Stone Grill in Kenton Place has switched back to dinner-only hours, and Kabuto Lake Norman Japanese steakhouse and sushi bar is donating a portion of the sales of its two-person special to Ada Jenkins Center. The food trucks are back for lunch Wednesday at the Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St. in Cornelius, behind the police station. Food Truck Wednesdays are part of a broader effort to enliven downtown Cornelius, organized by the Cornelius Cultural Arts group, including downtown merchants. Two trucks will be in the parking lot this week: Sunrise Grill & Sandwich Co. and Root Down. Read the full story

A crowd gathered around the Sunrise Grill & Sandwich Co. food truck Wednesday in the parking lot at the Oak Street Mill, helping to kick off a new weekly offering in Cornelius: Food Truck Wednesdays: Lunch in the Lot.”
Cornelius native Matt Sorensen was among the diners. “In all my years, Cornelius sure has changed a lot. I think it’s good,” he said, as he waited for an order of Asian zucchini. Read the full story

The vacant Midtown Sundries on Lake Norman in Cornelius could get new life as a waterfront restaurant soon in a deal being put together by Brickhouse Tavern owner Nick Lyssikatos. Meanwhile, Fireside Bar & Grill has opened up in the former Pelican’s Patio site on West Catawba Avenue. The specialty beer store and tasting room plans to move at mid-month into more visible space facing South Main Street. The move was made possible by last week’s closing of Legacy Supply Co. A ribbon cutting and a day of free yogurt Saturday formally opened the new TCBY yogurt shop at Davidson Commons shopping center, off Griffith Street. The fro-yo chain took over the space at 610 Jetton St. vacated by rival Red Mango, which closed its doors in November after a year in business. Read the full story

The Davidson Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization is raising money this winter with the help of local restaurants with a weekly fundraiser called “Dine Out for Davidson Elementary. For years Davidson diners have been craving Mexican, something to add a little spice and fun to the expanding dining choices along Main Street. On Wednesday, the doors officially opened on the answer: Carrburritos
The Mexican taqueria has taken over half the ground floor of the building that also houses Wooden Stone Gallery, at 445 S. Main St. The 3,500-square foot restaurant has seating for about 100 people indoors and on a new outdoor patio, as well as a bar offering traditional and specialty margaritas. (We can’t stop talking about that Jalapeño Margarita.) Read the full story

Burrittos are suddenly big in the Lake Norman area, with two new restaurants: Carrburritos in Davidson (opening Wednesday) and Hot Head Burritos in Cornelius, which opened Dec. 31. Meanwhile, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has begun hiring for its new store in Birkdale Village. And there’s a new doughnut shop in Huntersville called Donut King. Read the full story

The 10th edition of the semi-annual Queen’s Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week returns Friday, Jan. 18, to Sunday, Jan. 27, at a record 112 restaurants in six counties in the greater Charlotte area and Lake Norman. Specials and details, along with hotel discounts, are now live on the Queen’s Feast website, www.CharlotteRestaurantWeek.com.
Participating restaurants offer special prix fixe dinners of three or more courses, for $30 per person (plus tax and tip). Popular eateries are joining in again across Charlotte to Matthews, Concord, Belmont, Gastonia, Waxhaw, the Lake Norman area of northern Mecklenburg and Iredell counties, and Fort Mill, S.C.
