Tim Lingerfelt had an award-winning hot dog recipe. Traci Gibson had a background in catering and fast food – including a stint running a Lake Norman hot dog boat. This week, the pair opened a new fast-foot shop called Hot Diggitee Dogz in the former Raeford’s Grill on Davidson’s West Side.

A half-dozen favorite local eateries have signed up to serve food during the Davidson Housing Coalition’s Festival for Hope & Housing Saturday on the Village Green. It’s the first time the annual festival has incorporated food. Meanwhile, we also have news about a new dinner menu at Campania Cafe, planning for the second annual Lake Norman Wine & Food Festival, and upcoming food-related events.

Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in Davidson has begun serving Sunday brunch, and like the rest of chef Tim Groody‘s menus at the new eatery, it’s being promoted as a “play” on the traditional. Also in this column, Maddi’s Southern Bistro in Birkdale is closing, and a listing of upcoming food-related fund-raisers.

With autumn now upon us officially, if not weather-wise, the Davidson Farmer’s Market continues its weekly run on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon next to Town Hall. Market Manager Mary Jane Leach says be on the lookout this week for foods that mark the turn of seasons.
