Peaches are back in season across the South, and especially in The Peach State. Wait, which state is that anyway?
Georgia goes by The Peach State – you can see it on Georgians’ license plates. But the true title of Peach State really should go to South Carolina, which traditionally ships more peaches than its neighbor to the west.

I’m having a bit of a love affair with local peaches. Nothing says summer to me like biting into a soft, juicy peach, and I’ve all but perfected catching the juices with a paper towel as they dribble down my chin. I love them in pies, cobblers, and jams, but I also enjoy them in more savory roles, such as the star of this protein and fiber-packed salad. I like to make a big bowl of this Peach Quinoa Salad on Sunday nights to have for lunch during the week.

The Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival has landed a collaborator for its 2nd annual festival on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Kenton Place in Cornelius. The festival is partnering with Lake Norman Rotary Club for this year’s event, which will be cut back to one day. Continue Reading

ted Way on Thursday, Aug. 11, and Ingersoll Rand is pledging to match the proceeds. Meanwhile, Davidson Chocolate Co. is in the midst of another round of “nonprofit days,” donating a portion of its sales on Wednesdays to selected local nonprofits. This August in North Carolina – you may have noticed – has been particularly hot. And on these recent steamy scorchers, I’ve been craving cool, refreshing beverages that aren’t too sweet. Of course, I love a cold beer or a glass of wine, but sometimes, I just need something a little more refreshing.
Aguas frescas (refreshing water drinks) are fruit-based drinks that are sold all over Mexico, and often you can find them on the menu at traditional Mexican restaurants. Until recently, I hadn’t tried one, but I’m so glad that I did. It is perfect for this time of year. And, an added bonus: you can use the solids as a cooling DIY face mask!
