Restaurant X in South Main Square has updated its menu this summer to add often-requested specials to its old favorites. Meanwhile, Know Your Farms summer food camp in Davidson still has openings in its final two weeks of camps. Local peaches are beginning to make their appearance at farmer’s markets, roadside stands and groceries. Experts say this year’s crop in the Carolinas could be the best in years thanks to a favorable winter and spring.
“We’ve got the best crop of peaches this year that we’ve ever had. We’ve got peaches on oak trees, I believe,” joked Brent Barbee of Barbee Farms, in Concord. Read the full story

Meanwhile, Davidson Chocolate Company‘s summer “chocolate for charity” days continue Wednesday, July 7, with a portion of proceeds going to Davidson Cornelius Day Care. With help from donations during a busy market on Saturday, the Davidson Farmer’s Market surpassed its 2010 fund-raising goal of $2,000 by nearly one-half. Officials with non-profit group said Tuesday their Friends of the Market “Sweet Pea” campaign brought in a total of $2,984.
