Organizers and supporters of the new 7th Street Public Market in downtown Charlotte will cut a ribbon Tuesday morning to officially open the new local food outlet.  The ceremony will be at 11 a.m. on the ground floor of Seventh Street Station, 224 E. Seventh St., the former Reid’s grocery.

“We are thrilled about all the people coming together to open this Market,”   Christy Shi, executive director of 7th Street Public Market, said in a press release. “It has such a strong mission that will do so much good for the Charlotte community and its rural neighbors. We are so excited about the prospect of moving out of the construction phase and into celebrating and supporting local producers and food artisans.” Read the full story

Davidson Farmer’s Market’s winter tailgate market will be back this Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon next to Davidson Town Hall. You’ll want to plan ahead – parking and road closures could be issues because of the afternoon North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. The phrase “college dining hall” often conjures images of rubbery mac-and-cheese, canned green beans, and bland, frozen chicken nuggets. But that’s not the case at Davidson College, where the campus’s Dining Services focuses on sustainable business practices and cooking from scratch to deliver healthy, delicious meals to students.

Director of Dining Services Dee Phillips has been working hard to decrease Davidson’s carbon footprint. After more than 30 years in food services and eight years as the director at Davidson, Ms. Phillips has the knowledge and experience to bring about change. She also welcomes student voices through feedback dinners, a recipe request program, and comment cards. Read the full story
