Davidson Farmer’s Market hosts its annual Strawberry Shortcake Day fundraiser this Saturday, May 11, with proceeds going toward the market operations. The event runs 9:30 to 11am (or until supplies last) at the market next to Davidson Town Hall. They’ll have homemade strawberry shortcakes for $5 each.
The succulent shortcakes will be smothered with locally grown berries from the market, and local whipped cream.
“Strawberries are late this year due to the cold winter and cool spring,” Market Manager Courtney Spear said. “Market-goers are eager for summer fruits and this Saturday will be a perfect opportunity to get a taste of the sweet nuggets that are blessing the market right now. And, it will be a great treat for mom on this Mother’s Day weekend!”
While you’re at the Market you’ll find lots of spring produce including strawberries, a variety of salad greens, snap peas, radishes, Swiss chard, green onions, cucumbers, fennel, endive, arugula, asparagus, broccoli, and veggie plants. In addition you’ll see other homemade goods such as artisan breads, empanadas, French pastries, donuts, cookies, loaf bread, granola and popsicles. Pastured beef, poultry, pork and seafood also are available, along with soaps and essential oils, fresh cut flowers, plants and lavender products.
The Market is open every Saturday 8am to noon, with more than 35 local vendors selling a wide variety of producer-only goods. Cooking demonstrations, live music, special events, Growing Kids Club and other children’s activities are planned throughout the season.
