^[1]For beer lovers, a menu of beer and just about anything else makes for a satisfying outing. Over the next week, local beer drinkers will have two chances to pair their favorite beverage with something good. This Saturday morning, the Davidson Farmer’s Market and Summit Coffee host another Beer & Brats Brunch. And then next Friday, July 6, Davidson Beverage Co. in South Main Square will host a Chocolate and Beer Tasting. Also below, a reminder about the start of weekend brunches at Alton’s Kitchen in Cornelius.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS: BEER AND BRATS

Breakfast of Champions,, a Beer & Brats Brunch, will offer local sausages from Davidson Farmer’s Market vendors and local beers provided by Summit Coffee at Davidson Farmer’s Market this Saturday, June 30, 10:30 a.m. to noon, at the market, next to Davidson Town Hall.

Tickets will go on sale the morning of the event, beginning at 8 a.m. Only 100 tickets will be sold at $10 each.

This weekend’s market also will be a chance to stock up on supplies for the Fourth of July. Market organizers report farmer’s will have eggs, corn, tomatoes (pink, purple, red and yellow), sweet onions, zucchini, squash, potatoes, cucumbers, green beans, eggplant, peppers, carrots, beets, kale, tomatillos, cabbage, blackberries, peaches, plums and maybe a few melons. Protein farmers will be well stocked with a variety of chicken cuts, lamb, pork and red meat options.

CHOCOLATE AND BEER TASTING

Have you been to the Davidson Beverage Co. yet? John Baker has shaken up the South Main Street neighborhood in Davidson with his shop selling local, micro-brewery and specialty beers. And he’s attracting a following. Now, he’s got an event in the works that can’t help but add to those numbers.

On Friday, July 6, Davidson Beverage Co. will host its first evening of Chocolate and Beer Pairings, working with Joey and Sylvia Schnople, neighborhood residents who run Jamu Chocolates. They’ll lead the crowd through a brief history of chocolate and chocolate making, then introduces pairings of six selected beers and hand crafted chocolates.

The event is Friday, July 6, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Davidson Beverage Co., 442 South Main St., in South Main Square (in the former Masterworks School of the Arts). Admission is $15, payable at the door or in advance at Davidson Beverage Co. You may want to act quickly: They’ll limit this to 25.

ALTON’S ADDS BRUNCH

Alton’s Kitchen & Cocktails in Jetton Village, Cornelius, will begin serving weekend brunch this Sunday, July 1. They’ll continue the new offering every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They’re advertising a variety of intriguing ideas: Crab Benedict, waffles, a shrimp and grits and Braised Lamb over Cheese Grits w/ Lamb Jus.
