A crowd of town political candidates, businesspeople and yogurt lovers lined up Saturday morning to formally christen the new Red Mango frozen yogurt shop at Davidson Commons shopping center, off Griffith Street. The shop, which opened Oct. 7, was giving away free yogurt and toppings through 2 p.m.
Mayor John Woods joined business partners Trent Barnes and Paul Carini to cut a red ribbon on the sunny morning, facing the shopping center car park. Then a costumed Red Mango yogurt cup mascot led young and old customers inside for free self-serve frozen yogurt.
The frozen yogurt chain originated in South Korea. It features flavors such as Mango, Dark Chocolate, White Peach, and Madagascar Vanilla. It’s among 144 Red Mango stores now open for business across the country.
The company was recently named the the No. 1 Rated Frozen Yogurt and Smoothie Chain in America in Zagat’s 2011
National Chain Restaurants Survey.
