Seven restaurants in the Lake Norman area will donate portion of their sales to the Uni ^[1]ted Way on Thursday, Aug. 11, and Ingersoll Rand is pledging to match the proceeds. Meanwhile, Davidson Chocolate Co. is in the midst of another round of “nonprofit days,” donating a portion of its sales on Wednesdays to selected local nonprofits. And Red Mango, a South Korea-based chain of frozen yogurt stores, plans a location at Davidson Commons.

UNITED WAY DAY

Seven restaurants in the Lake Norman area will contribute a portion of their proceeds on Thursday, Aug. 11, to United Way of Central Carolinas, and the Ingersoll Rand Foundation will match those donations dollar for dollar. The restaurants are:

• Campania Italian Café and Trattoria
• El Paraiso
• Flat Iron Kitchen and Taphouse
• Fuel Pizza
• Sabi
• Subway

United Way Restaurant Day was organized by Ingersoll Rand as part of its annual fundraising drive. Last year, Ingersoll Rand was the fifth-largest contributor to United Way of Central Carolinas, and the largest outside the city of Charlotte; the company’s Davidson Campus serves as Ingersoll Rand’s North American headquarters.

“Ingersoll Rand consistently incorporates new fundraising ideas like this into their annual campaign to keep it fun, which is one reason they outdo themselves year after year,” Ed Runte, United Way’s vice president in the downtown Mooresville office, said in a press release. “We greatly appreciate how United Way Restaurant Day invites the broader community to participate, and we thank each of these restaurants for joining in. Just dining out on August 11 will have a positive impact on our neighbors who most need help.”

CHOCOLATE FOR NONPROFITS

Davidson Chocolate Co. is hosting another series of nonprofit days this summer. The shop will contribute 40 percent of profits to selected nonprofits on Wednesdays. This week’s charity is Ada Jenkins Center. Next Wednesday, Aug. 17, they’ll donate to Lake Norman YMCA. RED MANGO COMING TO TOWN

Red Mango ^[3] a chain of frozen yogurt shops, is planning its second store in the area, at Davidson Commons (the Harris Teeter shopping center) in Davidson. The company already has a store at NorthCross Shopping Center in Huntersville. It’s not clear when the shop might open. Work has yet to begin on constructing the shop, in an undeveloped space at on the ground floor of Davidson Commons. Red Mango is a South Korea-based company with U.S. headquarters in California. The Davidson shop is one of more than 500 to be opened in a U.S. expansion.

FLATIRON BEER DINNER

Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in downtown Davidson plans another in its series of beer and wine dinners next Tuesday, Aug. 16. CAMPANIA BENEFIT DAY FOR HOUSING

Campania Cafe & Trattoria, 416 S. Main St., in South Main Square, Davidson, is celebrating its third anniversary. They’ll have an “Uncork for Our Community” day on Monday, Aug. 15.  Visit Campania for lunch or dinner, bring your own wine, and the $10 corkage fee per bottle will be donated to Davidson Housing Coalition ^[5].
