The Davidson Farmer’s Market will host Strawberry Shortcake Day on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The market will be selling homemade strawberry shortcake made from locally grown berries and classic shortcake biscuits baked by market vendors. Shortcakes will be available from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., while supplies last.
“We’re thrilled to host this wonderful springtime event again this year,” said Courtney Spear, the incoming Market Manager for the Davidson Farmer’s Market. “We had to cancel the event due to a short berry season last year, so we’re eager to bring back the popular event. What could be better than beginning the weekend with a delicious treat?”
Spring produce is in abundance now with lots of fresh strawberries, salad greens, snap peas, radishes, and asparagus. The Market is open every Saturday morning from 8 am – noon in Downtown Davidson.
With more than 40 local producers sell a wide variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits, meats, eggs, honey, cheese and fresh flowers as well as baked goods and prepared foods. Cooking demonstrations, live music, special events and children’s activities are planned throughout the season.
The Market is located next to Davidson Town Hall between Main and Jackson Streets. For more information, please visit www.davidsonfarmersmarket.org or www.facebook.com/davidsonfarmersmarket .
