When I was about 10 years old my mom started making homemade freezer jam. Ever since then the jam from the grocery store just doesn’t cut it. I share this with you along with the warning that once you start eating homemade jam you will never want to go back to store-bought again. So be sure to stock up!
The recipe is really easy and can be done with a variety of fruit, but so far my favorite is the strawberry jam. AND strawberries just happen to be in season and on sale right now.
Start by rounding up some 8 oz. jam jars. Quantity depends on how much jam you intend to make. This recipe is found on the back of Simple Creations Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin package and will fill about five 8 oz. containers.
For strawberry jam you will need:
- 4 1-lb containers of fresh strawberries. (You can also use frozen fruit, but the result is not as good).
- 1-1/2 cups of sugar (or Splenda). I prefer sugar.
- 1 package of Simple Creations No Cook Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin.
First, stir sugar and contents of package in a bowl until well blended. Then stir in 4 cups of crushed strawberries. Continue stirring for 3 minutes longer. Pour the jam into the jars, twist on the lid and let stand for about 30 minutes. If you intend to eat the jam right away, put one jar in the refrigerator and the rest should go in the freezer for later use.
That’s it … enjoy!
