Several competitors walked away with awards Saturday, April 30, in the Ada Jenkins Center’s third annual “Fire” barbecue festival. Ten Ten Bar-B-Que was the People’s Choice, voted by those who attended the event. Competitors also faced the scrutiny of area mayors and businesspeople, who judged the day’s other winners.
The festival and a morning 5K raised money to the many social service programs at the Ada Jenkins Center, which serves families throughout the Lake Norman area. (See related story, “Cornelius runner Justin Reitz wins Ada Jenkins 5k”)
First Place in the Hogmaster division ended up as a tie between DDQ and Ten Ten Bar-B-Que. Third place went to Moonswine Racers. Best set-up went to Mert’s Heart and Soul.
Judges for the event included three area mayors: John Woods of Davidson, Jeff Tarte of Cornelius, and Jill Swain of Huntersville, along with and Tom Grogan of Grogan and Associates, who is also a board member at the center, as well as Adam Boatsman and Dale Gillmore, representing the Premier sponsors Boatsman and Gillmore, PLLC.
Ada Jenkins Center said the money raised will help continue to meet the demand of assisting families in crisis, providing access to affordable medical and dental care and helping individuals achieve financial independence in North Mecklenburg and South Iredell communities.
