Wine and cupcakes, together? That was the menu Wednesday afternoon at a tasting at Just Baked Cupcakes, a three-month-old bakery and coffee shop at the Oak Street Mill in Cornelius.

Missy and David Wallace
Owners Missy and Chris Wallace, of Davidson, paired different cupcake flavors (chocolate/wine, vanilla, key lime, strawberry shortcake) with wines from Sweet Vine Winery, a Denver winery run by vintner Ken Baker.
The combinations of Missy Wallaces cupcakes with Mr. Baker’s Amarone, cabernet, and fruit wines actually hit the spot at 5:30 p.m. when we were there. A different kind of local food?
Ms. Wallace and her husband live on Beaty Street in Davidson, where she bakes daily at an approved in-home kitchen. They moved to town a year and a half ago from Hilton Head, where she was working as a personal chef.
Just Baked Cupcakes opened about three months ago as a business-within-a-business at the Oak Street Mill. The shop shares space with David Austin’s Carolina Art Garden, in the old mill behind the Cornelius Police Station.
Ms. Wallace says she bakes six varieties of cupcakes most days, and more on weekends. She also serves Peets coffees and specialty tees. They’re open Mondays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
