River Run has hired a new food and beverage chief, Millie Harper, who comes from a Chicago area country club. Also, area eateries have a variety of specials in store for New Year’s eve. And we have news of holiday hours at a few Davidson restaurants.

NEW FOOD CHIEF AT RIVER RUN

Millie Harper has joined River Run Country Club as Food and Beverage Director. Ms. Harper comes to River Run from Rolling Green Country Club in Chicago, where she was the director of food and beverage. She previously also was in management at the Union League Club in Chicago, as well as Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill. In addition to overseeing the the food and beverage department at River Run, she also will be the point person for all special event sales at the club, including private parties, business meetings, weddings, etc. For booking information, call Ms. Harper at 704-892-4633, ext 305.

NEW YEAR’S SPECIALS

Area restaurants are offering a variety of New Year’s Eve specials next Friday night, Dec. 31. Here are a few we’ve heard about.

• At Lake Norman Cottage, they’re already counting down to New Year’s Eve. The shop will host a New Year’s party, with food and drink. Price is $40 per person, including party hats and noisemakers. Lake Norman Cottage is at 200-A North Harbor Place, next to North Harbor Club Restaurant, off I-77 Exit 30. Call for more information: 704-237-3629.
• T1 Tapas in Birkdale Village is offering a 3-course prix-fixe dinner on New Year’s Eve, $30 a person. Starts with Crispy Seasoned Calamari or Corn & Poblano Soup, continues with Seafood Paella or Pork Tenderloin with Apple Cranberry, and wraps up with a dessert. They’ll have drink specials, and offer a bottle of champagne with chocolate covered strawberries for $25. Balloon drop and champagne toast at midnight. • Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in Davidson will be offering a special menu on New Year’s Eve. Chef Tim Groody is still developing his menu, but the restaurant has started taking reservations. The price will be $45 per person or $80 per couple. The restaurant will be reservation only that night (Friday, Dec. 31), with no walk-ins, according to manager Chris Mallery. HOLIDAY OPENINGS/CLOSINGS

Campania Cafe in South Main Square will be closed Thursday to Monday, Dec. 23-27. They’ll be back on Tuesday, Dec 28. They’ll also be open on New Year’s Eve and open for dinner at 5 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse at South and South Main streets is open normal hours both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (11 a.m. to 1 a.m.).

Restaurant X, 408 S. Main St., in Davidson, will be closed Christmas Eve through Monday, Dec. 27. They’ll reopen Tuesday, Dec. 28 at regular hours.

Brickhouse Tavern is open Christmas and New Year’s eves and New Year’s Day, but closed Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve, they’ll feature live music with “Phil,” beginning at 7 p.m.

The Egg at Davidson in Sadler Square will be closed Christmas Day, but open regular hours the rest of the holiday season.
