Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse is spinning its depth of local beers on tap into a weekly event – North Carolina Beer Night. A wine dinner is also in the works for Dec. 7. Also, Epic Chophouse in Mooresville is now open in the former Soiree space on Main Street in Mooresville. Armin’s Catering at Beaver Dam Park is planning an open house next weekend. And Davidson Elementary School stands to benefit from “Take Out Tuesdays” at local eateries.
N.C. BEER NIGHT & WINE DINNER
A centerpiece of Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in downtown Davidson is the beer tower that delivers dozens of craft brews to the bar’s array of taps. Now, the restaurant in the Stowe’s Corner building at South and South Main streets is offering a North Carolina Beer Night on Mondays.
Manager Chris Mallery reports that they’ll have specials on all North Carolina craft brews – 14-oz. beers for $3 and 20-oz. beers for $4. Offering range from Greenman ESB and Cottonwood Frostbite to Foothills IPA and Catawba Valley Brewing’s White Zombie. Flatiron also serves the Duck Rabbit Porter, various beers from Highland Brewing Co. of Asheville, and other Tarheel State brews.
Meanwhile, Flatiron also is offering its first wine dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. Chef Tim Groody is cooking up a variety of dishes for a 5-course dinner that will include pairings with 5 wines. TAKE OUT TUESDAYS
We’re entering that crazy season of the year when activities wreak havoc with family dinner planning. Davidson Elementary School’s PTO wants to simplify your life with a series of four Spirit Nights at area restaurants called “Take Out Tuesdays.” Order takeout or dine in at any of the nights, and the PTO gets a portion of the proceeds. Be sure to wear your Davidson Elementary spirit wear. Here’s the schedule:

EPIC CHOPHOUSE OPENS IN MOORESVILLE
Epic Chophouse has now opened in the former Soiree restaurant space on Main Street in Mooresville. Charlotte Observer reporter Joe Marusak reports that the restaurant is the work of the same team that built Mickey & Mooch restaurant in Huntersville 12 years ago. In a Nov. 7 article, he talked to Mooresville downtown director Kim Atkins about how the restaurant’s rebirth is a sign of the ongoing strength of downtown.

OPEN HOUSE AT BEAVER DAM
Armin’s Catering, which manages Beaver Dam Park and historic site in Davidson, is planning a holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Beaver dam is at 19600 Davidson-Concord Road. The day’s events will include tours, vendors and refreshments by Armin’s, which manages and books events at the site. www.arminscatering.com
HOLIDAY CLOSINGS, ‘X’ BRUNCH –
Many local restaurants will be taking the day off Thursday as we all lay about gorging ourselves on turkey and football. Summit Coffee on Main Street will be closed all day. Restaurant X, in South Main Square, will be closed Thursday and Friday, reopening Saturday.
