Davidson could be getting another fast-food hot dog business, and this one it would be right on Main Street. Davidson’s Design Review Board gave its approval last week for a proposed hot dog cart to operate near the Davidson public library and CVS. The cart still needs a town vendor permit.
Friedeh Kariminian of Statesville hopes to operate the cart, which would offer hot dogs, chips and canned drinks. She’s being represented during the approval process by Parviz Moosavi, of Davidson Planning Consultants Group, who is a former Davidson town planner.
Davidson Economic Development Manager Kris Krider said he can’t recall any other street vendor in Davidson ever following through on plans for a downtown cart.
“We have had applications and designs presented to us in the past. However, I do not believe anyone has ever followed through,” Mr. Krider said.
One application came from a woman wanting to sell jewelry near Summit Coffee. But it never happened. He said the town has stringent requirements, which may deter applicants, he said.
Ms. Karimian had proposed several locations: in front of the post office, near the tot lot next to Town Hall, in front of the CVS and the site the DRB favored, between the CVS and the library.
It’s not clear when the cart might begin operating. Town planning officials said Ms. Karimian still needs a town vendor permit.
This month, Hot Diggitee Dogz opened on Mock Circle on Davidson’s West Side, near Ada Jenkins Center. The takeout restaurant offers hot dogs, burgers and other sandwiches for lunch and dinner.
