Lots going on this month at local eateries – from an “Uncork for a Cause” breast-cancer fund-raiser at Campania Cafe to an exclusive Beer Dinner – dishes paired with different brews – at Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse. CAMPANIA CAFE

Campania Cafe, at 416 S. Main St. in South Main Square, is hosting a fund-raiser next week, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Running next week, Oct. 18-23, it’s called “Uncork for a Cause.” Bring your own bottle of wine, and they’ll donate half the $5 or $10 corkage fee to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Meanwhile, Chef Vincent DiGiorgio will be preparing a special “pink ribbon” wine tasting dinner menu on Tuesday, Oct. 26, and Wednesday, Oct. 27. A portion of the sales from the dinners will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The menu features a glass of rose wine, a lobster sherry pink cream sauce, and more.

FLATIRON’S BEER DINNER

When Flatiron Kitchen & Taphouse opened in the Stowe’s Corner building in downtown Davidson, Chef Tim Groody and his co-owners hinted about plans for Sunday hours and special events. The restaurant recently began opening Sundays for brunch. And next week they’ll follow through with one of their first special events – a “Beer Dinner” that will pair microbrews with special dishes from Chef Groody.

The Beer Dinner will be Monday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. We got a sneak peek at the menu, it and it includes pairings such as Low Country Pale Ale and pumpkin dumplings, a Low-Down Brown Ale with duck confit, and a wheat ale with orange coriander mousse cake. Altogether, the meal promises five pairings of beers and dishes.

NEW SOUTH SERIES: CORNBREAD NATION

The Levine Museum of the New South and Davidson College Friends of the Arts are co-hosting a reception in Davidson next month called “New South for the New Southerner: Cornbread Nation.”

The event celebrates publication of the fifth annual volume of “Cornbread Nation: The Best of Southern Food Writing.” On hand will be editor Fred Sauceman, Charlotte Observer food editor Kathleen Purvis and “BBQ Provocateur” Dan Huntley.

Reception with food prepared by Mr. Huntley begins at 7 p.m. in the Lilly Family Gallery of the Chambers Building on the Davidson College campus. Tickets are $8 for the general public, availably by calling 704-894-2109.

• RUSHCO DAVIDSON MARKET off I-77 Exit 30 could be open by around Dec. 1, developers Bobby and Joey Rusher said Tuesday. They were at the Town Board meeting where the board voted to approve a conditional zoning that allows them to adopt signs that deviate from the town sign rules.
