Chef Kris Reid will offer a new series of cooking classes at the Davidson Farmer’s Market beginning this Saturday, May 15. Chef Reid will conduct two short sessions each of eight Saturdays this summer and fall, incorporating foods from local farmers.

She will offer attendees new techniques and skills for the home kitchen in two sessions at 9:30 am and 10:30 on the following eight dates, using items from the listed farms:

May 15th – Grateful Growers
June 12th – Big Oak Farm
July 17th – Cackleberry Farm
July 31st – Bird Brain Ostrich
August 7th – Gilcrest Farm
August 21st – Calico Farmstead Cheese
September 18 – Wild Turkey Farms
October 16 – Local Eating Tips

Davidson resident Norma Stewart will also present several cooking demonstrations throughout the summer showcasing the best of what’s in season with new and original recipes.

Kris Reid is the Chef/Owner of K.Leigh Cuisine, a catering and consulting business in Belmont, NC.  A graduate of Johnson and Wales University, she also attended the New School of Cooking in her hometown of Los Angeles, as well as Colegio Gastronomico in Guadalajara, Mexico where she studied for six months in 2004. Ms. Reid’s cooking demonstrations bring people closer to real, tasteful “local” foods and away from processed carbon foot print heavy, flavor-enhanced foods.

In Los Angeles, Ms. Reid worked with celebrity wellness coach and owner of Nutrifit, Jackie Keller.  She is a volunteer greenhouse and garden space manager for Hope Haven, a non-profit in Charlotte, where she is growing food to feed the resident community of 200 men, women and children.  Ms. Reid’s motto is: “Don’t eat low fat or low cal- just eat food, real food from farmers you know.”
