Gilroy files for re-election as Cornelius commissioner

Dave Gilroy filed on Wednesday to seek re-election to the Cornelius Town Board, where he has been a commissioner since 2005.
Gilroy is the fourth to file for the Cornelius board. Incumbents John Bradford and challengers Bill Sykes and Jim Duke also are in the race. Commissioner Chuck Travis has filed to run for mayor.
Candidate filings for the November local elections continue through July 19 at noon.
Gilroy was appointed in 2005 to fill the unexpired term of Thom Tillis, who was elected to the state legislature. He also has served on the Planning Board and other local committees and coached youth sports.
A Harvard MBA, he works in finance and is the Managing Director and Founder of Scale Finance LLC, providing CFO & Controller Services and Transactions Support for entrepreneurial companies.
He also has a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering from Princeton University.
Gilroy has advocated for keeping town taxes low. And he has been an outspoken opponent of state and local transportation projects, including the Red Line Regional Rail Project and the current proposal to widen I-77 using High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes.
He lives on Torrence Chapel Road with wife Dee and four daughters.
