Mr. Campbell, a registered nurse, said he would push to “completely eliminate quite a few departments” of the federal government. Meanwhile Ms. Roberts argued that spending money on infrastructure is key, and would help lure more business to the district.
Missing from the forum was the third candidate in the race, former state Sen. Robert Pittenger. His political director Brian Mullis said before the event that he would be campaigning elsewhere in the district on Thursday with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

They’re vying for all three at-large seats on the commission, which are vacant. Attending were Democrats are Pat Cotham and Trevor Fuller, both of Charlotte; Republicans Michael Hobbs, James Peterson and Wayne Powers, all of Charlotte; and Libertarian Jason Bateman.
