Natasha Marcus says she hopes to bring a moderate voice to a legislature run by a Republican super-majority.

John Bradford is running against Democrat Natasha Marcus for the 98th District state House of Representatives seat on a platform that emphasizes a pro-business policy. Latrice McRae sees a shortage of state senators advocating for the rights of working-class families, and she hopes to address this under-representation in office.

A partner at her consulting firm Cason McRae, she had no political experience before entering the senate race against Republican candidate Jeff Tarte. But she doesn’t see that as a liability: “We don’t need someone with political expertise in Raleigh,” she said. “We need leadership.”

“No one’s advocating for working families,” she said. “I feel like someone has to step up to the plate and advocate for us.” Continue Reading

In his first term as the state Senator for District 41, Republican Jeff Tarte co-authored a bill that reversed Mecklenburg County’s disputed property tax revaluation, and he fought for Kilah’s Law, which imposes stricter punishments on child abusers. He was primary author of the Health Care Transparency bill, which aims to keep consumers aware of hospital pricing.

It’s a long list of accomplishments for a freshman senator, but Tarte said he has many other goals as he seeks a second term against Democratic challenger Latrice McRae. Continue Reading
