John Rhodes, an independent from Huntersville who lost his 98th district state House seat to Thom Tillis in 2007, plans a write-in campaign to challenge Tillis and incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan for US Senate.

In a statement Wednesday, Rhodes said he was “recruited by independents and Republicans,” and is “taking a stand against the two-party system.”

Rhodes opposes toll lanes on I-77, Obamacare and the Common Core education standards and supports gun rights. Continue Reading

The 2014 race for North Carolina’s U.S. Senate seat is set. Thom Tillis will take on Kay Hagan this November. Tillis won the Republican primary Tuesday, garnering 45 percent of the vote, avoiding a runoff.

Tillis’ supporters started gathering in the Omni ballroom in downtown Charlotte just as the results started trickling in. Soon, there were a few hundred supporters on hand, all waiting to hear from the man they believe can take down the junior senator from North Carolina. Continue Reading
