Principal Terri Cockerham appointed a School Name Advising Committee in the fall of 2009, charged with reviewing, researching and selecting three names to be presented to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Peter Gorman for naming the new high school under construction on Bailey Road in Cornelius. The committee selected W.A. Hough as its top choice, followed by Unity and Rocky River. Those recommendations were forwarded to the school board, which voted 7-1 on Nov. 10 to accept the committee’s top choice of W.A. Hough High.
