St. Alban’s golf tourney Oct. 20 to fund Habitat house

Deaths: Marc Cathey, noted horticulturist

H. Marc Cathey, a Davidson native, horticulturist and former director of the U.S. National Arboretum died Wednesday, Oct. 8. He was 79.  A memorial service is planned Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church sanctuary. A reception will follow in the Congregation House.

Town Board votes to build IB school rec center

After piecing together $4 million in funding commitments, the Town Board Tuesday gave the go-ahead for Davidson to join Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in a $7.6 million project to renovate and expand Davidson IB Middle School on South Street for use as a school and town recreation center.
