Main Street in downtown Davidson will close for two hours on Wednesday night (Sept. 29), between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., so a crane can lift air conditioning units onto the roof of the Stowe’s Corner building at South Main and South streets. The Town of Cornelius is warning drivers that traffic on West Catawba Avenue could be slowed beginning Saturday, July 17, by paving and road widening near Robbins Park.
Here’s the text of the Cornelius alert:
Paving on West Catawba – Starting July 17
Hunter Construction and Rea Paving will begin working on the asphalt paving and road widening associated with Robbins Park along West Catawba Ave this weekend. The widening will encompass the area between Kings Point Drive and Bluff Point. The road will be reduced to one lane with flagmen directing traffic. Crews will be working during the day on both Saturday and Sunday. They will also begin doing night work next week. This project is expected to take 60-90 days to complete and will require numerous times of traffic control in order to install the curb and gutter, and roughly 700 tons of asphalt. Crews have been instructed to attempt to minimize back ups and allow quick responses for emergency traffic.

Growth and road-building in the towns surrounding Davidson could send thousands of additional cars onto town streets in the future. How can Davidson improve or expand its own road network to accommodate growth without radically changing its character? What’s better: a major thoroughfare through an undeveloped area in the heart of town or several roads across town that carry portions of the traffic?
Those were the questions in the air Monday night at a public planning workshop on a proposed “North Davidson Parkway” that one day could carry traffic around Davidson between N.C. 73 south and east of town and N.C. 115 to the north. Read the full story
