Alarms over the past two weeks included one at The Pines at Davidson caused by a cut power line and a carbon monoxide alarm triggered by a concrete saw operating in the pool area of the Homewood Suites. A report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle triggered a multi-agency response on Park Drive, but emergency personnel were unable to find any incident. Medical and fire standbys for basketball games and the Chinese New Year rounded out the remaining calls. Details on these incidents and more may be found below. Read the full story

Davidson Housing Coalition volunteers prepared more than a thousand sets of eight luminaria – white paper bags with candles – for Saturday night’s 12th annual “Noel for Neighbors” fundraiser. In the end, they ran out. Hundreds of neighbors across town joined in, lining yards and sidewalks with the flickering holiday lights, making it the biggest night in the event’s history. Fall means an abundance of apples in Taylorsville

Did anyone get a three day weekend? Took advantage of all the sales? Watch the temperatures plummet as well as the Panthers performance at Bank of America Stadium? Well, on the brighter side, last Saturday was a beautiful day to be outside and enjoy a last taste of summer temperatures and this coming weekend promises to be another beautiful, sunny taste of fall.
Around Davidson today took advantage of the pretty sunshine to check on apples at The Pines, dirt at the Post Office, fleece blankets for the Humane Society and adventures of Judy Schuh with her sister. Read the full story

Frequent rains produce marvelous mushrooms!

This is the last week of freedom before Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools open their doors for a new academic year. The yellow buses are already practicing their routes, football games are already being played, and sports teams are honing their skills daily. Cooler temperatures and welcome rain make for a wonderful transition week from vacation to homework! And Mother Nature is making use of the soggy ground to provide a bountiful crop of “designer” mushrooms.
Around Davidson today spent some time at The Pines interviewing J. and Martha Honeywell and Ruth Harms who are fairly recent “newcomers” to the retirement community. We think you will enjoy knowing them. Read the full story

Need a ground cover? Try pumpkin vines!

Well, we have found something the deer won’t eat. Pumpkin vines! What a treat in so many ways to put in a few hills of pumpkin seed: nothing eats the spiny leaves, the vines trail all over your yard thus cutting down on grass mowing, the leaves and blooms are pretty to look at and if all goes well, there will be a wonderful “Charlie Brown” pumpkin patch in October. (Not too late to put in some seed – just be prepared to add a little water.)
Around Davidson today has two important reports. The first is a birthday for Pines’ resident Fred Evans who turns 100 years young TODAY. Happy, happy birthday to you, Fred. The second is the result of the contest to name the new baby at Barger Farm. Hooray for the creative Brian Shaw family who were declared the winners! Read the full story

Today Around Davidson features a bit of gardening with a recipe sure to please. Read the full story
