Thieves continued to be a problem for local construction sites this week when an unknown suspect stole over $3,300 worth of copper tubing from inside of three houses in the Summers Walk neighborhood. Unknown suspects broke into a business on North Harbor Place and stole over $1,100 worth of cash and electronics, and someone used a Lakeview Avenue victim’s social security number to open numerous accounts with a power company in Connecticut.

Police officers responded to several traffic accidents over the past two weeks, including one Monday when a Charlotte woman rear-ended another vehicle on Main Street, then knocked over a street sign and damaged two utility poles. Elsewhere, thefts were reported at the new Carrburritos restaurant on South Main Street, where a $300 painting was taken, and at homes under construction in the Summers Walk neighborhood, where $1,200 worth of copper wiring was stolen. Police over the past few weeks investigated a variety of thefts, including construction materials and Chevrolet Camaro, valued at $22,000, which was quickly recovered. Eight people were cited for underage drinking last week on Southwest Drive, and one person was arrested on charges of burglary, assaulting a female, and providing fictitious information to a police officer. Police are investigating several thefts this week, including one in which a thief took a $2,100 competition bicycle from a garage in the St. Alban’s neighborhood and another involving $9,400 of jewelry stolen from a residence on Jib Court. A mother reported being assaulted by her 17-year-old son, and an unidentified driver of a 1998 Honda Accord drove over the River Run Golf Course, damaging the course and crashing into a tree. A Charlotte woman was surprised to learn last week that she had backed into a Davidson Elementary School employee after dropping children off at the school. Police investigated after a complaint from the school. Police also are investigating two auto break-ins where thieves stole owner’s manuals and loose change. In one incident on Magnolia Street, someone took two plastic containers of gasoline from the victim’s yard as well. Other items on the blotter this week include theft of a game system and laptop computer from a Central Park Circle home, and a Jetton Street woman’s report of credit card fraud. Davidson police are investigating several residential thefts over the past two weeks, one in which a $300 chainsaw was taken from Meadowbrook Lane home where a suspicious person had been seen earlier. In River Run, two newly-installed 25 MPH signs were missing. Meanwhile, a Summers Walk man found that someone had used his Social Security number to file taxes this year. And a woman told police her personal information had been used to open a Dish Network account in February.
