Former Davidson star Stephen Curry is on the sidelines right now for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. This season, he has re-sprained his right ankle, which required surgery last spring. Thanks to the lockout by National Basketball Association team owners, former Davidson College basketball star Stephen Curry is back on campus this fall, taking courses toward the completion of his degree. Davidson College students headed back to classes on Monday and there was a familiar face among them: NBA basketball star and former Wildcat Stephen Curry.
Mr. Curry left Davidson after his junior year to turn pro, but at the time he vowed he’d be back to finish his degree. He was drafted and has been playing for the Golden State Warriors.
But with the NBA owners locking out the players and the season nowhere in sight, Mr. Curry is taking the opportunity to work on that degree. A sociology major, he is taking 9 credits this semester, according to a Davidson sports information spokesman.

The NBA owners’ lockout that began last week has many players considering alternatives for the fall. Stephen Curry, the former Davidson College star now with the Golden State Warriors, reportedly is considering re-enrolling in classes at Davidson College, where he’s still a few credits shy of a degree. Father and son Stephen and Dell Curry hosted their 2nd annual Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament Monday at River Run Country Club, marshaling an army of other pro athletes and celebrities – from NFL star Muhsin Muhammad to former UNC basketball coach Bill Guthridge – to help raise money for Davidson’s Ada Jenkins Center. Ex-Wildcats, including Stephen Curry and Bryant Barr, will return for April 30-May 1 dinner and 3-on-3 basketball tourney fund-raiser.
The Davidson College men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the third annual Davidson “BUZZKILL,” a 3-on-3 tournament, dinner and auction, April 30-May 1, to raise money to prevent the spread of malaria and provide health education in Africa. Read the full story
