The town of Davidson soon will begin replacing the aging pedestrian walkway along Griffith Street at Roosevelt Wilson Park in a $76,000 project paid for through a combination of town funds and a grant from the charitable foundation of Mooresville-based Lowe’s Corp.
The town announced Tuesday that Lowe’s Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has provide a grant of $25,000 to help pay for the bridge. The town also has $51,000 for the project in its 2012-2013 budget. Read the full story

A large turnout of Davidson citizens and businesspeople gathered at Roosevelt Wilson Park Tuesday evening for the annual National Night Out, a community cookout and crime prevention festival. Town and county officials are trying to figure out what caused the death of about 200 fish this week in Davidson Pond at Roosevelt Wilson Park, off Griffith Street.
Davidson Public Works Manager Doug Wright said Thursday that a resident reported the dead fish on Tuesday morning. Town officials contacted the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Read the full story

Glad to see tissues on sale everywhere: You need one in every pocket these days to combat runny eyes and drippy noses from all the pollen floating through our spring air. It is also a good idea to have one to swipe at the tiny worms that have invaded our porches and yards. Looks like next year will see a lot of anti-worm bands encircling our beautiful trees. At least they are not affecting the hydrangeas and iris which currently are showing us Mother Nature’s most splendid side.
