Community members are invited to register for the first annual Swing Fore A Child’s Place golf tournament Tuesday, April 24, at River Run Country Club in Davidson. Players will enjoy a day of golf, food and prizes while helping impact the lives of homeless children in Mecklenburg County.
A Child’s Place provides homeless children with educational, emotional and health support, helping to keep them healthy and in the classroom. Read the full story

Police obtained a search warrant and broke up a teen drinking party Saturday night in the River Run neighborhood. Alcoholic beverages were seized and a 17-year-old woman is now facing misdemeanor charges of aiding and abetting underage drinking, along with resisting, obstructing, and delaying. Four other partygoers also were cited for underage drinking and resisting, obstructing, and delaying. Elsewhere, five drivers were charged with DWI on local streets over the past two weeks, and a Davidson Pointe resident reported that someone shot a BB through a side window of the home. Six vehicle break-ins were reported Jan. 4 and 5, near Virginia Road and Winged Oak Way. Windows were busted out of vehicles in at least four of the incidents, but the only items reported stolen were $90 worth of clothing and electronics in one case, and $3 cash in another. Meanwhile, $100 worth of athletic clothing was stolen from the Lake Norman Christian School on South Street in a break-in the first Tuesday of the year. Police also are investigating an embezzlement at The Brickhouse Tavern in which an employee reportedly stole $271 from the restaurant. Police are investigating a case of credit card fraud in which an unknown suspect tried to open a line of credit at Sears with a Churchill Road woman’s driver’s license and Social Security number. In addition, officers investigated two suspicious vehicles that were parked for extended periods on Robert Walker Drive over the past few weeks. Firefighters assisted homeowners with a number of household problems this week. A woman on Cotton Gin Alley called 911 after waking up early Sunday to the smell of electrical smoke, but firefighters were unable to detect smoke or any other hazards upon investigating. A malfunctioning residential fire alarm on Rollingdale Lane prompted an emergency response last Friday, and a homeowner on Callaway Hills Lane requested assistance for an oven broiler that would not turn off. From Naramore to North Main and Winged Oak to North Downing, thousands of luminaria lined the streets and sidewalks of Davidson Saturday night in the annual Noel for Neighbors fund-raiser for Davidson Housing Coalition. The candle-lit displays raised more than $16,500 for the organization, which provides affordable housing and home ownership education programs. Read the full story

Davidson residents were heading to the polls in healthy numbers Tuesday to vote for mayor, the five Town Board seats and three at-large school board seats.
Voting appeared to be heavier at the Town Hall polling station, Precinct 206, where more than 500 people had voted by around 1:30 p.m. That was just before a bus arrived full of residents from The Pines at Davidson. Read the full story

Jim Duke brought a water meter with him to the Cornelius Town Board meeting Monday night. The county is testing new meters at the Peninsula and in Davidson's River Run neighborhood.

CORNELIUS – Peninsula Homeowners Association president Jim Duke said Monday that Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities’ officials have heard area residents’ pleas for better service and improvements in the way the utility measures water use. Speaking at a Cornelius Town Board meeting, Mr. Duke said, “They’re listening, they’re making changes.”
He said the utility plans to compare two devices – one being tested in the River Run neighborhood and one in the Peninsula neighborhood – to see which system is most accurate. Read the full story
