Davidson Elementary kids enjoyed field days during the last week of school, with activities ranging from soccer to tug of war. Meanwhile, a Cannon School teacher and student have won national French awards, and Woodlawn School students have been recognized by Duke TIP. Meanwhile, graduations are scheduled over the next few days for the Class of 2013 at W.A. Hough, Hopewell and North Meckleburg high schools. Read on for the details.

The largest crowd of the season packed the Davidson Village Green Sunday night for a Concert on the Green and the swing sounds of the Lake Norman Big Band. The nonprofit, 20-member band played until rain halted the concert early. Read the full story

“I was kind of surprised I had to sit in a ditch,” said Davidson College Biology Major, Spencer Chadinha. He joined others in “Animal Behavior” for a bird-watching afternoon class on Langtree Road at the Davidson College Lake Campus in Mooresville.
“It’s nice to be outside for class. It’s pretty cool. If I have to spend my afternoon in class, I’m glad to be hanging out watching birds,” Spencer said, as he sat tucked on a small grassy knoll. Read the full story

More than 700 runners joined in for the Run Wild 5K and Wild Child Fun Run in Huntersville’s Birkdale neighborhood Saturday, raising $30,000 for the African Children’s Project. Davidson-based Olympian Anthony Famiglietti won the race in one of the fastest 5K times in the area in recent memory. Claire Naisby of Davidson won the women’s division.
