A formal public comment period is open through April 22 on the N.C. Department of Transportation’s plan to widen I-77 north of Charlotte by adding high-occupancy toll lanes, or HOT lanes. The Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) plans public meetings Wednesday in Huntersville and Thursday in Charlotte as part of its effort to gather input on the plan.

They’re nowhere to be found in daylight, but paving crews are out in force overnight this month on N.C. 115, the main street through downtown Davidson and Cornelius. Charlotte-based Ferebee Corp. is doing the work under a $7.8 million contract with N.C. Department of Transportation.
The DOT is resurfacing Main Street/N.C. 115 from the Iredell County line in Davidson south to Washam-Potts Road in Cornelius. The patching and repaving project is happening nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. It began the first week of June and is expected to last at least through the end of the month. Read the full story

Backers of the proposed Red Line Commuter Rail Project are seeking approval from area governments, saying all must be on board for the plan to work. But there’s another player in the background that determine whether the project goes forward: Norfolk Southern Corp., which owns the tracks north of Charlotte. And the Charlotte Business Journal reported Friday that Norfolk Southern officials have lots of questions about the project including whether commuter service is viable on the line.

About 50 people showed up Saturday afternoon, May 21, for the grand opening of the town’s newest greenway, a 1.1 mile biking and walking trail along the West Branch Rocky River through the River Run neighborhood.
People came to hike ride and jog along the tree-lined paved trail, which runs between Shearer Road on the east and River Ford Drive on the West. The new trail also includes a section of boardwalk with views of the river. Read the full story
