Board sets 2010 dates for quarterly retreats
Davidson’s Town Board meeting on Tuesday night, Feb. 9, includes a vote on a series of budget amendments – including cuts needed to cover a budget shortfall at the town-owned MI-Connection cable TV system. Directors of the financially-strapped MI-Connection Communications System on Thursday approved a revised 2009-10 budget that reflects lower than expected revenues and requires a cash infusion from the system’s owners, the towns of Davidson and Mooresville. The board of directors of the MI-Connection cable and internet system meets Thursday morning, with an agenda that includes a discussion of the audited financial results for 2009 and consideration of an amended budget for the 2010 fiscal year. The board also will discuss its financial reporting process and discuss nominations for chairman, treasurer and secretary. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at MI-Connection headquarters, 420 S. MOORESVILLE – MI-Connection Communications System said Thursday its financial results for the first quarter of the 2009-10 fiscal year were slightly behind budget, but the business is continuing to grow since completion of a system upgrade last spring.
Meanwhile, at a board meeting in Mooresville, MI-Connection also introduced a new general manager, cable industry veteran Alan Hall, who started work Oct. 1. Read the full story

As the Nov. 3 election draws closer, candidates for Davidson Town Board and the District 1 school board seat are ramping up their campaigns, with letters to voters and public appearances.
The eight Town Board candidates and three District 1 school board candidates will answer questions at a public forum Thursday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
Meanwhile, a group of local residents who are opposed to the town’s 2007 purchase of the local cable and internet system is hoping to raise the issue as the election approaches. They’ve been quizzing the candidates about the town’s ownership of the cable system, and posting the answers on a website called OurCableCompany.com. Read the full story

Mecklenburg County and five towns north of Charlotte, including Davidson, are considering buying the cable system serving this area.
The proposal has grown out of the bankruptcy of the area’s former cable operator, Adelphia Cable. Under the cable system operating agreement, the county and towns have first crack at buying the system because of Adelphia’s bankruptcy.
Time Warner Cable has taken over management of the system until the purchase issue is resolved, and would own the system if the towns and county decide against buying it.
